SAILING NORTHERN MICHIGAN

NOW OFFERING TWO LOCATIONS TO START & END YOUR CHARTER: BAY HARBOR & TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN

The first thing people notice when arriving in Northern Michigan is the clear, teal and blue Caribbean-esque water. Navigation is very easy due to lack of tides and water depths exceed 700 feet in some areas.

Michigan boasts more coastline than any of the lower 48 states  and our cruising area offers the best of what this freshwater paradise offers.

Within our sailing grounds are 45 anchorages, harbor towns and marinas  available to cruisers.

The locals are friendly and welcoming. Harbor Masters have been known to loan the marina car out to cruisers looking for supplies. Sailors feel welcome and are treated like family.

CHARTER BASES

CenterPointe Marina
TRAVERSE CITY

Our sailing school and charter fleet is located at the  CenterPointe Marina – with easy access to sail Grand Traverse Bay, the Manitou Islands, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and Charlevoix.  With a little more time you can reach Beaver Island and as far north as Mackinac Island. Sailors can experience towering sand dunes, deserted islands, quaint harbor towns, long stretches of beaches, quiet coves and local festivals.

The CenterPointe Marina is a private marina offering a quiet atmosphere and first rate facilities including a boater lounge, private shower rooms and washer/dryer. Major grocery is just down the road, several good restaurants are within walking distance and downtown Traverse City is about a mile away.

BAY HARBOR

About halfway between Traverse City and Mackinac Island, nestled just south of Petoskey in Little Traverse Bay, Bay Harbor is about 55 miles from Mackinac Island. Starting and ending your charter in Bay Harbor offers quicker access to the Beaver Island archipelago, Charlevoix, Petoskey Harbor Springs and the Straits of Mackinaw when compared to our Traverse City base in CenterPointe Marina.

Bay Harbor is one of the country’s most exclusive and unique waterfront communities. It’s a mix of private homes and boathouses, a yacht club with world-class yachts alongside a small downtown with shops, restaurants and some light provisioning. For the big stuff, you’ll find major grocery and the box stores just a few minutes away by car. The Bay Harbor Inn is a full service resort hotel on the property and you can also find accommodations through their condo rental management program. The marina offers a bathhouse, laundry and a boater lounge.
